My reverse osmosis faucet is slow or tastes off again

An under-sink reverse osmosis system works quietly for a long time, which makes it easy to forget it needs regular care. A slow faucet or a taste that's coming back are the usual signs it's due.

What you can safely check first

A couple of checks help us bring the right parts.

  1. Look for a date or label on the filters under the sink to see when they were last changed.
  2. Note whether the faucet starts strong and then slows, or trickles from the start.

What might be behind it

More than one thing can cause this, which is why the plumber finds the cause first.

Filters past their life. The filters and membrane wear out on a schedule and slow the flow as they clog.

Low pressure in the storage tank. The tank that holds treated water can lose pressure, so the faucet only trickles.

Low water pressure to the house. The system needs enough incoming pressure to work well.

How we fix it

We check the filters, membrane, tank and incoming pressure, then explain what needs replacing. We check the connections for leaks before we leave.

Depending on the cause, the relevant services are reverse osmosis drinking water or water pressure regulator.
