Price expectations

What drives the cost

The price depends on what the plumber finds. Here's what each outcome looks like and where it starts. You don't pick one: book the visit, and we confirm the scope and price with you before any work starts.

Best case

Ask us

One slow or clogged drain: a sink, tub or shower.

  • Clear a single clogged drain to restore full flow.

Exceptional

Ask us

Several drains backing up at once: the main sewer line.

  • Main line clearing plus camera inspection to find what caused it.

What can change the price

  • How long it lasts. Clearing just the clog gets water moving today. Cleaning the full line takes the buildup out along its length, so the drain stays clear longer.
  • Repeat visits. If the same drain has been cleared more than once this year, a more thorough cleaning, or a camera look, usually costs less than calling us back again.
  • Downtime. Most drain cleaning is done in one visit, and the fixture is usable as soon as we finish.

You don't need to pick one.

Tell us what's happening. You can leave the diagnosis to us; the visit is where we work out which fix you need.

Is this what you’re dealing with?

A sink that won't empty or a shower you're standing in ankle-deep is a daily annoyance, and it tends to show up right when you need it. It happens in every house. Soap, hair, grease, and mineral scale build up in drain lines over the years, no matter how careful you are.

Check it yourself first

If it's one slow bathroom sink or tub, you can often fix it yourself in a few minutes, and you should try before you call us.

  1. Pull the sink stopper or tub strainer and clear out the hair and gunk. That's the most common clog there is.
  2. Use a plunger on a single sink or tub. Cover the overflow hole with a wet rag so it builds pressure.
  3. Skip the chemical drain cleaners. They rarely clear a real clog, and they're hard on pipes and on whoever works on the drain next.

Questions people ask

What usually causes it?

A buildup in one drain: Hair in a tub or shower drain, or grease and food in a kitchen line. Only that one fixture drains slowly, and everything else works. A blockage in a shared line: Two fixtures that share a line, like a sink and a tub, back up together. The clog sits past the point where they meet. A problem in the main sewer line: Several drains back up at once, a toilet gurgles when the washer drains, or water comes up in a tub or floor drain. That points past your fixtures to the main line out to the street.

How do you price it?

The cost depends on whether the blockage is in one fixture drain or the main sewer line, how we can access it, and how much cleaning is needed. A recurring clog may need a camera inspection. We explain the scope and price before work starts.

Can I check it myself first?

If it's one slow bathroom sink or tub, you can often fix it yourself in a few minutes, and you should try before you call us.

What happens when you come out?

Which fixtures are slow or backing up, and whether they share a line. Where the clog is, by clearing from the closest access point first. Whether water flows freely afterward, tested at the fixture. For repeat clogs, whether a camera look at the line is worth it before more cleaning.
