Drains & Sewer · Conroe, Texas

My drain is slow

Standing in an inch of water while you shower, or waiting on a sink that takes forever to empty, gets old fast. It happens in every house. Hair, soap, grease, and mineral scale build up in drain lines over the years, no matter how careful you are.

What you can safely check first

One slow sink or tub is very often a clog you can clear yourself. Try this before you call us.

  1. Pull the sink stopper or tub strainer and clean out the hair and gunk. That's the most common clog there is.
  2. Use a plunger on the single sink or tub. Cover the overflow hole with a wet rag so it builds suction.
  3. Pour a kettle of hot, not boiling, tap water down a kitchen drain to loosen grease.
  4. Skip the chemical drain cleaners. They rarely clear a real clog, and they're hard on pipes.

What might be behind it

More than one thing can cause this, which is why the plumber finds the cause first.

Buildup near the drain. Hair and soap caught in the stopper or just below it. Only that one sink or tub is slow, and everything else drains fine.

Buildup further down the line. Grease in a kitchen line, or years of scale in a bathroom line. The drain slows down again a few weeks after you clear the top of it.

A problem in the main line. If several drains are slow at once, or a toilet gurgles when the sink drains, the trouble is likely past your fixtures, in the line out to the street.

How we fix it

We check which fixtures are slow and where the restriction sits. Hair near a stopper, buildup farther down the drain and a damaged sewer line need different work. We explain what we find before recommending cleaning, a camera inspection or a repair.

Depending on the cause, the relevant services are drain cleaning or sewer line repair.
